Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains Differences

Targeted to small, medium-sized and some large companies with $10 - $500 Million in revenues.

Reseller channel. Great Plains has an extensive choice of resellers and implementers to choose from globally, especially in North America.

Extensive functionality. Out of the box, Great Plains includes extensive functionality including Analytics and Reporting, E-commerce, Field Service, Financials, Human Resource Management, Inventory and Order Processing, Manufacturing (Discrete), Project Management, Retail Management, and Supply Chain Management.

Business Portal. Business Portal is included at no additional charge when you purchase Great Plains – you get as many licenses to use Business Portal as you purchased for Great Plains. The system is designed so far as an intranet meant to be used by people within the organization.

Financial Reporting. Great Plains uses FRx, the leading financial report writing tool, to generate financial reports. Any report can be designed and you can drill down for more detail. Although FRx is used by many products, it is owned by Microsoft. Auto-generate Excel pivot tables from FRx

Integration Manager. Good tools to translate data from external systems without programming or knowledge of Great Plains data structures.

Intercompany Processing. Automates balancing of transactions across multiple companies.

Smart List. Useful tool to access data allowing for moving of columns, sorting, filtering, selection of data based on multiple criteria, search for data based on embedded text, and an easy link to Excel or Word.

General Ledger. One of the better systems available with many useful features such as mass update of accounts and an undo function to reverse a journal entry made in error.

Analytical Accounting. Don’t use the chart of accounts. Use of dimensions but not used in FRx yet.

Distribution. Trace serial and lot numbers to bills of materials, customer orders, or any other transaction. Blanket Purchase Orders and PO line items with differing required dates Order Status Change History. Inventory allocation based on customer priority and request ship date. Availability to Promise. Graphical BOM that lets you update entries, edit revision levels, and save revision histories. Advanced picking in bulk or waves. Sales workflow process - track the status of 6 steps which vary by sales type. Demand planner using historical data and statistics to forecast demand.
