Target
market. QuickBooks is targeted to small businesses with 1-25
employees. However, QuickBooks continues to add more simultaneous users
and functionality, and now competes with the low end of mid market
systems.
Ease
of Use. QuickBooks has been designed from the beginning to be
used by small businesses that have no accounting knowledge. QuickBooks has
an edge with features such as question-based help and
navigation tools that show a flowchart to guide you in performing tasks in
the right order. QuickBooks provides free
guaranteed set up with all Premier products.
Reporting. QuickBooks uses its own reporting tool and provides a
multitude of reports out-of-the-box with the ability to customize the
reports by adding columns and changing fonts. In addition, modified
reports can be memorized or imported from accountants or other QuickBooks
users.
Industry Specific Editions. QuickBooks has differentiated
itself by creating industry specific systems already designed and set up
for specific industries. Customized versions exist for Accountants,
Contractors, Association & Nonprofit organizations, Retail & Repair
businesses, Property Management and Professional Services, and
Manufacturing & Distribution. The Accountants edition allows accountants
to better manage their client files using Internet-based remote access.
The other industry specific systems are designed and set up specifically
for that industry to help manage that business more effectively.
POS.
The retail system includes Point of Sale (POS) hardware (bar code
scanner, receipts printer, case drawer) and software. POS includes the
ability to perform online debit and credit checking using Moneris. The POS
system is targeted to single register operations and includes unlimited
support and consultation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Enterprise Edition. The enterprise edition expands the number
of users from 5 to 10 and doubles the data base size to 29,000 records.
Forgivable. You can edit and delete transactions after they are
posted. Many accountants will roll their eyes at this kind of flexibility.
But many users appreciate being able to easily
make changes made in error. For the accountants, there is an audit trail.
You can also lock periods to prevent changes to past periods and can add
passwords and security in the product to limit
access by certain people to certain areas of QuickBooks.
Class
Reporting. You can use classes to classify income and expenses across
divisions, departments or any other meaningful breakdown of the business.
Remote
Access. With just an internet browser, you can access your QuickBooks
Premier system from anywhere with no additional copies of QuickBooks
needed.
Excel
Integration. It's easy to export to Excel and even the formulas remain
intact.
Custom
Fields. Custom fields let you add to the information that QuickBooks
tracks about your customers, vendors, employees, and the items that you
purchase and sell.
